He Promised
“The days are going to get longer,
and the nights shorter,
I promise.”
I cling to his words,
because right now,
it is hard to believe.
Until light starts its stealthy
sneak attack on the dark,
until that very moment
my eyes register flickers of
beams of gold
where previously
oppressive hues of grey and black
were all my eyes and soul could see,
despair threatens.
But he loves me,
so I will trust him.
I will wait longingly for the light
while I sit in the dark.
My beloved is my night light companion,
warming and illuminating even these blackest of days.
He promised and I believe him.
Here comes the sun.
